Fitness trainers know what they’re talking about, but sometimes they miss these key exercises that you can do at home while watching TV. For the best results, do these exercises every other day. Eat a clean diet that is filled with fresh vegetables, lean proteins, beans, nuts, seeds and whole grains. Drink a minimum of 60 ounces of water and herbal tea with lemon every day.
1. Top exercise: Vacuum Pose
This is really a fancy name for a version of sucking in your belly. Everyone has sucked in their bellies before, nevertheless they don’t integrate it into an exercise program. Done regularly, you’ll lose inches from your waistline… as many as 3 inches in a month.
How to do the Vacuum Pose:
1. Get on your hands and knees, it is important to keep your back curved for a proper “Vacuum”.
2. Exhale all the air from your lungs, and squeeze your diaphragm.
3. Suck your belly in, try to expand your lungs like if you were breathing but don’t let any air in. Use your diaphragm to suck in your belly very tight. Feel your stomach squeezed against your spine
4. Hold the pose for 10 seconds
5. Release and breath a few times, then Repeat.
6. Repeat for 5 minutes (or more) this is perfect to do while watching TV, especially commercials… so no excuses!
2. Next, the best squat for cardio…Hindu Squats
All squats are fabulous, but hindo squats are amazing for endurance, speed and explosive lower body power! No need for weights, which can increase chances of injury. Hindu squats are great for your body, knees included, the key is to ease into them slowly. When done properly you will also incorporate deep breathing.
How to Do The Hindu Squat
1. Start with your feet shoulder width apart and your hands pulled into your chest.
2. While keeping your back straight. squat down and bring your arms down behind you for balance.
3. Roll up onto the balls of your feet as you lower down, at the very bottom you will almost be up on your toes.
4. At the bottom of the squat, swing your arms forward as you push up off your toes.
5. Reach you arms out in front of you as you come to the top. Once you reach the top, your heels should be touching the floor again and then you pull your hands back in towards your chest. Repeat steps 1-4.
6. Breathing is very important, exhale on the way down and inhale on the way up. Do this for each and every rep. The breathing is as important as the movement.
7. Start with 20-30 reps and slowly work up to 500. Within time, you will want to do this for 500+ reps for 15 minutes straight. This is easier said than done…and is a serious cardio workout.
Meet our Super Mami Contest Winner Whitney! Whitney used our 10 week Super Mami Teatox Kit and lost a whopping 29 pounds in 3 months! She won a free 10 week kit ($99.99) Value! She is truly an inspiration, and also proves you can totally transform your body, even after 40!!
Message from Whitney:
The Swami Mami Teatox Kit is a huge bonus to add to your healthy lifestyle goals. I ordered the 10 week teatox kit, when my friend Jamah recommended it.
I have so many people asking me how I lost weight. I believe I tapped into an embodiment of me & my body and just believed that I could change my body. I let go of all judgments I have and really developed a deeper connection to my body, mind & spirit. I prayed and practiced gratitude everyday. I love my body & it loves me back:)
For every workout I gave thanks & gratitude, I thank my body for all it is…may sound weird but it works. I give gratitude to all my love & support in my life…my family, my teachers, my support, friends, co-workers, my tea provider, my wraps, my energy workers and my yoga.
I had energy work done on my body every 1-2 weeks, that to most people sounds weird, I know.
But practically I developed a plan, I researched, talked to all my friends and I checked in with my self and asked questions…like:
What am I really good at?
What am I really weak at?
What can I change in my life? If so, can I really?
What can I absolutely not live without?
Where do I make good eating choices? bad choices?
What food should I add to my diet? What should I get rid of?
I discovered what my strengths & weakness were in regards to eating habits.
Then I implemented all that:
The 1st step is to believe you can do it…have a target in mind, example a realistic goal weight.
Then to take that 1st step…often the hardest.
Tell everyone what you are doing, or do it with a group, accountability and support is huge. I have connected with so many people because of this:)
As far as food, in the beginning I was strict for 2 weeks:
No processed food, organic when possible
No unnecessary carbs
Increased my protein intake
Lots of water!!
And of course I drank Swami Mami Teas morning and night. 5 days a week!!
I kinda followed this “base” meal plan:
For breakfast I ate a protein smoothie with coconut milk and 1/2 banana, maca powder & flax seeds.
Snack choices: eggs, apple, rice cakes with almond butter and almonds, some days I juiced.
Lunch was my favorite meal consisting of a salad, and a protein source such as quinoa, beans, grilled chicken & fish.
Dinner consisted of similar
Dessert: dark chocolate.
Of course I ate a lot more than that..but that was basically what I stuck too.
The biggest and most important thing I would tell people is to plan!!! Pick a day to buy the food, cook & prepare your meals for 5 days…this is huge!!
Foods to avoid: I avoided all processed foods, unnecessary carbs, dairy, grains, sugars and basically a non-inflammatory diet.
Foods that are a must: veggies, protein, almonds and a good protein powder.
After a workout, I made sure I got protein back into my body within 60min* very important.
For exercise: move your body! Ask what your body likes, I love yoga, running, hiking and Orangetheory Fitness but find what works for you and do something everyday, unless your body says…rest, then you rest.
I basically took it a day at a time, there were weeks where I didn’t lose weight, but I didn’t worry, I just believed.
I found ways to be inspired, a friend, my clothes fitting different, my skin looked better, my energy improved….Find something that inspires you!!
Here are a couple of simple home exercises to help you get trim and toned. These exercises will help speed up your weight loss while saving you time and effort. Here at Swami Mami, we love moving our bodies, and feel exercise is an integral part of being your healthiest self. We don’t always have a ton of time to get a full workout in everyday, these two exercises you can do everyday.
Easy Home Exercises for Women
1. Jumping jacks
These are beyond simple. Everyone knows about how to do jumping jacks! We had to do them in gym class all the time. They are super simple, yet super effective.
I recommend that you do them for 1 minute at a time, with 30 second breaks in between, and do 10 sets.
2. Stair walks
Or stair runs… or both. Here’s the deal. Give 10 straight minutes to walking up and down the stairs within your house, condo building, or apartment building. If you do not have access to any stairs, then substitute this exercise with high knees (running in place bringing your knees up high).
If you are doing high knees do them in 30 second intervals, 30 seconds of high intensity, then 30 seconds of stretching, repeat for 10 minutes.
We know that sometimes you have to lose weight fast, maybe it’s for an upcoming event, a party or even reunion. We have come up with a fat-torching strategy that actually will burn around 5 pounds from your bod in seven days — without starvation, eccentric supplements, or cutting out whole food groups. How? It is all about small sacrifices.
Drink Only Water and Tea
A sports or power drink, “healthy” fruit smoothies, juice, alcohol, even “vitamin” waters are packed with sugar and unwanted calories, we advise that you avoid these drinks completely. Water and tea are the perfect slim down drinks! They have zero calories, zero sugar, and zero carbs! To make your water really work for you, consider drinking teas, like Get Lean, which has been proven to help increase metabolic rate and improve energy. Or even try a Teatox Kit which comes with two teas, one that helps lose weight, and another that helps detox, these are a powerhouse combo when wanting to shed unwanted pounds.
How much water should you drink a day? Take your weight and divide that number in half (160lbs/2=80). So for a 160lb individual, 80 ounces of water is ideal.
- Drink 16-20 ounces of water with lemon right when you get up, this will help waken your organs, and jumpstart your body.
- Brew a pot of tea, again add lemon if you like (lemon is fabulous for you!). Enjoy at least one 8 ounce cup in the morning.
- Approximately an hour before lunch have another 16-20 ounces. Don’t drink water right before eating as it messes with your digestive enzymes and can cause indigestion.
- Late afternoon have a hot cup of tea, this will help curb cravings when you are searching for a sugary or salty snack.
- Drink at least 20 ounces while you’re exercising, adding lemon helps balance electrolytes.
- Pamper your body in the evening with a hot cup of detoxing tea, this will gently cleanse your body while you sleep and with time, you will find you sleep much better.
Avoid all white breads and pastas
Nothing good comes out of white bread or pasta, they are nutrient deficient and just convert into sugar when you eat them. “Simple carbs wreak havoc on your weight as they are digested very fast, leaving you famished and much more possible to overeat later,” says Jana Klauer, MD, creator of The Park Avenue Nutritionist’s Plan. Instead enjoy whole grains, wild rice, quinoa, cous cous, are all great choices. Bake a sweet potato and add a tablespoon of olive, coconut, or even hemp oil with fresh herbs to combat a carb craving.
If you are really trying to lose weight fast, we recommend avoiding all grains for a week, and replacing them with vegetables. Mashed broccoli and cauliflower with healthy oil, garlic and herbs is a great substitute. How about baking a sheet of Brussels sprouts, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, onion, garlic cloves and broccoli. This is a delicious and hearty alternative to grains at meal time.
Throw away all the processed foods
We’re not just talking about the chips, candy and snack cakes. We are talking about the frozen dinners, healthy (even organic) granola or energy bars, these appear to be healthy… sorry to break it to you, those are mostly unhealthy too. Read the labels of all of your food!! Do you recognize all the ingredients? If you don’t, it’s probably crap. How many grams of sugar is in it? Sodium?
Here are a list of seemingly healthy foods that cause weight gain:
- Vitamin or enhanced drinks
- Trail Mix
- Frozen diet Entrees
- Frozen Yogurt
- Fat Free Sweets
- Nut Butters
Do Cardio 30 Minutes a Day
Any work out which gets your heart rate up will burn off more calories. We are strong advocates in making exercise fun, you will have to find what works best for you of course. Some of our absolute favorites are Zumba (found in nearly every city), cardio kickboxing (most gyms), skating (rollerblading or quads) while listing to super fun music, boot-camp workouts, and spin classes. If you can’t get outside or to the gym, then find an indoor workout, our 7 Minute Scientific workout is fabulous, we also love the Workout Trainer App, and almost every Beachbody video (Brazil Butt Lift and TurboFire are our favorites).
Drink a cup of coffee prior to a workout
This is actually the one exception towards the stick-to-water only rule: Caffeine is a stimulant. It gives you extra stamina and increases your heart rate, improving blood flow from the heart to the rest of your body. Caffeine is thought to help endurance athletes by reducing the muscles’ consumption of glycogen, the stored energy used up during exercise. There’s only a certain amount of glycogen available, and once it’s used up, muscle fatigue sets in.
Unfortunately, habitual use of caffeine reduces all the above effects. The body treats caffeine like any other drug, so while the initial effects of caffeine are large, they are reduced over time. So skip the morning cup of coffee, drink tea instead, and use the benefits of coffee before you workout. Cool huh?
Have more safe sex, yes we went there!
Not that you needed an excuse to hook-up with your lover nightly! Your best position is with you on top, being on the top means you do the rocking and grinding, and the more busy you are, the more calories you burn — as many as 144 for 30 minutes.
Sexual activity also pumps degrees of feel-good chemicals, endorphins, enabling you to ride out food cravings. Plus it is proven to lower stress, which is also proven to help lose weight. Boom, two in one baby!
Do 30 Push-Ups and Lunges (or squats) Every Other Day
Do 3 sets of 10 every other day. 10 push-ups, 10 lunges or squats and repeat 3 times. This will help build lean muscle, and lean muscle helps to burn more calories, which in turn makes you lose more fat. Plus lean muscle will help you as you grow older, to reduce injury and keep your body in tip top shape. Our favorite time to do this is first thing in the morning, before your shower. 16 ounces of water with lemon, 30 push-ups, 30 lunges or squats, brush teeth, shower. Good morning body!
Get a Great Nights Sleep
Plan your sleep, and shut everything down at the time you need to be in bed. Be sure to allow yourself 9 hours to fully get the REMs your body needs. It has been proven that people who have a regular sleep schedule are thinner.
Make One Food Sacrifice
Eliminating one indulgence — including the chips you have with lunch or even the chocolate dessert you eat after supper — may subtract a couple of hundred calories from your own diet, which means less fat. Don’t create sugary habits, and if you already have, break the habit. Dessert isn’t necessary every single night. Make it a treat, pick one or two nights a week to enjoy that cup of frozen yogurt or dark chocolate.
Stand Up Straight
Shoulders back, head up, tummy in. Maybe you aren’t losing weight by standing up straight, but you sure look a few pounds slimmer!
Lastly… do something nice for yourself at least once a week. Something to relieve stress. A walk listening to your favorite tunes, a mani-pedi, a lunch or dinner date with an old friend, read a book for pleasure… Be good to yourself, and your body will thank you.
1. Ice cold water
You’ll burn an extra 250-to-500 calories a day by drinking 8-to10 glasses of ice cold water because…
Your body has to burn calories (or fat) in order to heat the ice cold water back up to your own body temperature so basically…
You can lose up to 1 lb. a week BY simply drinking ice cold water.
Sleeping to little causes you to make worse decisions, mostly because you’re tired. You will often eat more, because you are awake more hours. You will skip the gym because you are tired, etc. Getting a solid amount of sleep every night will reset your body, and set you up for a healthy day to come.
3. Green Tea
Studies show you’ll be able to burn 35-to-43% more fat during the day when you drink 3-to-5 cups of green tea. Even better though, you can drink 1-2 cups of Swami Mami’s Get Lean tea a day and get the same results! (the power of potency)
4. Vegetable Juice
Drinking a glass of vegetable juice before your meals may cause you to really eat 135 less calories according to your study done at Penn. state university. ?Just be sure the veggie juice you drink isn’t loaded with sodium! We love juicing beets, spinach, carrots, ginger & apple first thing in the morning, YUM!
5. Whey protein
Whey protein can help you release appetite suppressing hormones that curb your cravings.
In a recent study… people who drank either whey or casein and 90 minutes after, they were allowed to eat freely at a buffet table. Individuals that drank whey protein ate significantly less calories.
6. Yogurt Based Smoothies
Not only will the smoothie kill your hunger but Yogurt is loaded with calcium just like milk…
The calcium in yogurt helps you burn fat and it also restricts the amount of fat your system can make but…
Try to work with the fitter Greek Yogurt in your smoothies along with adding some whey protein and fruit to enhance your yogurt smoothies weight loss power!
Side note: Milk is high in calcium and calcium can boost weight loss by boosting fat breakdown in fat cells. This really will not mean you ought to venture out as well as drink gallons of milk everyday – but adding milk to your diet in moderation can double the rate of fat you lose.
Different studies say different things on milk and weight loss… some say you’re able to lose 30, 50, and one study even said 70% more weight than folks who do not include 3-4 servings of dairy (milk) a day.
7. Coconut water
Coconut Water contains more electrolytes than most fruit juices and energy drinks with no additional sugar & artificial flavorings plus…
Coconut water naturally speeds up so that you can work out longer with more intensity to get rid of weight faster your own metabolism & it gives you more energy.

Andra credits her readers and her website with taking her from an unhappy, unhealthy person to a lively, healthy woman who lost over 90 pounds and continues to keep it off. Andra doesn’t believe in “magic bullets” to slim down, but rather takes a common-sense approach that includes healthy eating, fitness, dealing with emotions and much, much more.
Why does Swami Mami adore Love to Eat, Hate to Exercise? She learned what works best for her body and realized that paleo was what she worked best with. If anyone has wheat sensitivities, Andra is a great resource, plus she has a plethora of great recipes.
If you’ve spent your whole life being the “fat person,” then you will find Andie’s story incredibly touching and inspirational. She used her newfound drive to kickstart her life, one where she took a day-by-day strategy to weight loss – and one that she used to lose over 135 pounds. Andie’s site will have you licking your lips, as she shares delicious recipes and beautiful photos.
Why does Swami Mami adore Love to Eat, Hate to Exercise? Her amazing recipes and very clear guide on how to lose the weight. Our favorite is following the transformation her mom is now going through. Great work Andie and you look great mom!
It’s difficult to locate a “most notable weight reduction blogs” list without Diane on it. Besides being a blogger, Diane is the author of 150 Pounds Gone Forever, where she divulges her experience going from a morbidly obese mother of 7 to a motivational speaker and on-line promoter thousands look to for encouragement.
Why Swami Mami loves Fit to Finish? It is pretty obvious, Diane has nailed it, and we think she is a total rockstar! You won’t regret following her advice, we absolutely loved her book 150 Pounds Gone Forever. If you’re looking for a life change, Diane is your woman!
Cat is a vegetarian, which most people assume means she is at a healthy weight, not in Cat’s case. She loved to indulge in everything “Carb-tastic” and cheesy! She was over 300 pounds and very depressed, opting to go with surgery (which she describes as 2 years of hell). She truly turned her life around and has told her story in depth. Her website takes readers through loads of healthy recipes, step – by – step processes for things like home organization, enjoyable things she finds while surfing the internet and more. This Ohio to NYC actor is absolutely wonderful and very inspiring.
Why does Swami Mami love Breakfast to Bed? An amazing and hilarious (but very real) New York mom, actor, and healthy living enthusiast. “I wasnt always a fitness enthusiast. I didnt always eat a well-balanced diet. In fact, I was a heavytarian. This is what you call a vegetarian who mostly lives on complete crap.”
We have loved reading every one of Cat’s posts, we promise you will too!
When Stephen put his first before picture out there for the world to see, he actually encompassed everything it means to be exposed and also to trust a community for support. He weighed in at a shocking 632 pounds, a point where many folks would only quit. But not Stephen. Through eating right along with a love for running, he’s lost almost 300 pounds (and counting!). His blog is truly touching, and he truly embodies the expression, “It’s never too late.”
Why does Swami Mami adore Who Ate my Blog? Simple… Stephen has lost over 300 pounds, and still working on 100 more. He is very honest and realistic throughout his journey and is an absolute inspiration! Stephen gives hope to anyone who feels they may have lost it. We are always routing for you Stephen!
Her site, “Go Goggy Go,” a name Katrin chose based on a nickname her brother had for her when she was a kid, has a capricious air about it – built straight into her style of writing. You’re sure to chuckle often and lift your eyebrows, impressed that a 50 something woman can eat such yummy-looking food on a normal basis, run a 10K and lose more than 60 pounds. Quite impressive, if we do say so ourselves.
Why does Swami Mami love Go Goggy Go? First off she has totally bashed that old rumor “You can’t lose weight after 50″… cause you can, and Katrin did, and we adore her!
Like almost all of us who start a weight-loss journey, Hollie occasionally gets stuck. But she never lets that get her down, listing new goals and commitments often – commitments that she strives to keep. Hollie’s matter-of-fact writing style might be both comical and daunting, but always has an honest, real feel to it. In one post, Hollie expressed her frustration with the number on the scale staying put despite her best efforts for this to change. Rather than becoming discouraged, Hollie quickly changed her approaches, made a new record of commitments, and continues to take it day-by-day to keep her promises to herself.
Why does Swami Mami love Skinny Hollie? “Losing weight is so hard… It’s such a battle. It’s so tempting to just how in the towel and give up. But I absolutely refuse. I don’t believe I’m supposed to stay this size or this weight. “
Hollie, we love your honesty, we love your tell it like it is manner. We love that you have 4 kids, and even at times when you want to give up, you reevaluate your goals and keep at it. You are such an inspiration!
It’s not only the dynamic site graphics that’ll catch your eye if you visit Krystle’s site. Her photos are certain to draw you as they are evidence of a truly stunning transformation. Krystle dropped nearly 100 pounds, and her current photos make it difficult to ever imagine her as weighty, let alone fat. Krystle takes others on a journey through her many work out selections (she likes to change this up regularly!) and includes some healthy (and some not so-healthy) food into her food regime, showing others that it doesn’t take absolute deprivation and constant 2-hour workouts to shed weight and change your life.
Why does Swami Mami love Krystle at Skinny Jeans Dreams? Because she is super honest and hard working to obtain her goals. She is so much fun to read, and her journey will absolutely reflect in a lot of your own fears and struggles. She reached her goal, she is a total bad-ass and we love keeping up with her!
You could say Vicki’s weight loss website is an up-and-comer. She’s using it as a platform to start herself into meeting her 60 pound weight reduction target, and here’s the thing: she’s doing a darn good job. Reading through her site, it is going to become quite clear that no matter the ups-and-downs, Vicki’s commitment to losing weight and changing her life is wholesome and blunt. She shares her food selections, her exercise routines, her eagerness and even the occasional letdown. Her website is ideal in case you’re looking to follow along with somebody from the beginning – someone who will quite likely get there shortly.
Why Swami Mami loves Happy Bubble Gal? Cause she’s happy! Also, her simple love of painting her nails because it keeps her busy and keeps her from eating is genius in our book. Plus her nail designs are uber cute!!
With a name like this, it’s no surprise that Kathy has amassed numerous followers (651 members and thousands of pageviews to date). Kathy’s posts are about a great deal more than her diet and fitness routines; they’re about her thoughts and emotions, fascinating tidbits she finds and her personal battle with weight. Kathy joins with readers because her blog is very, very personal, but also amusing and comical.
Why does Swami Mami love Kathy’s Journal? “What I do have is truth for me. Yes, that’s it. A truth for me. It may not be your truth. But it is mine. Maybe you will learn more about me than you wanted to know. But you know what? That’s OK with me”
Kathy, we love your honesty and all your “weird” stuff… keep it comin’!
Nina has a flair for the remarkable. She doesn’t only like to monotonously go through what she ate or her weekly workouts, but rather writes with an edgy style that sets her apart from numerous others. Now, she weighs in at 189. As a former athlete, Nina has never been a small girl. Growing up, she was even called “Haus,” because of her uncanny strength and size for a girl – a nickname Nina sometimes fought to accept. But Nina is rather distinctive and exquisite – and following along with her as she embraces that beauty, gets fit and accepts herself is something you won’t need to miss.
Why does Swami Mami love Too Hottie for That Body? We love that Nina is a true athlete, “I was that chubby girl who could run circles around the skinny-fat girls.” We love her, and her journey.
